One injured in truck fire at drilling well pad

One person suffered minor injuries Thursday afternoon when a hot oiler truck caught fire at an Antero Resources well pad between Silt and Rifle.

Investigators are looking into the fire’s cause.

The Rifle Fire Protection District said in a news release it was called around 3 p.m. to the fire at the Dever A well pad off County Road 352, which is east of the Garfield County Regional Airport. About half the truck was on fire when firefighters arrived, and the fire was under control at 3:46 p.m.

The truck was used to heat water to clean well fracturing tanks, the fire department said. Local Antero operations manager Jon Black said the truck belonged to an Antero contractor, which he declined to identify.

The fire department said one contractor employee was taken to Grand River Hospital in Rifle. The department didn’t give the employee’s name.

No other structures or vehicles were involved in the fire.

Black said the contractor and the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission also are involved in the investigation into the fire’s cause.
