Thanks for the note with hearts and more thoughts from Round 1

By Melinda Mawdsley

Note: Rachel took the day off, leaving me to write alone, which means two things. 1. This post will have no big words. 2. I can write whatever I want.

Rachel and I disagree a lot. No seriously, like all the time. We do, however, share a mutual love of debating and getting notes from readers, particularly when it comes with hearts. (Thanks, Caroline)

That’s what makes bracket challenges so fun. It combines debating with our love of getting mail.

Before we put the bracket together, I had Rachel send me the list of movies she quotes most often:

1. “Auntie Mame”
2. “The Producers” (the one with Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel; I refuse to acknowledge the other one, or the musical)
3. “Pride & Prejudice (I mean the 1995 BBC miniseries, the only one I will acknowledge)
4. “The Court Jester”

(Ladies and gentlemen, here is the reason why “Auntie Mame” showed up in this bracket challenge.)

Here are the movies I quote most often, and these are all movies I’ve been quoting since childhood.

1. “The Wizard of Oz”
2. “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory”
3. “Jurassic Park”
4. “Ghostbusters”
5. “Back to the Future.”

(Ladies and gentlemen, I'm responsible for “Willy Wonka” being in this bracket challenge.)

I mean, we’re just two people, and we don’t quote the same movies. Based on reader response thus far, it seems very few quote the same movies we do, so imagine how difficult it was to narrow the field to 64? We have no idea where you're heading with this bracket.

Here are some observations thus far:

Dave W. was the first person to turn in a bracket. He turned the bracket in Friday, Nov. 22 before either Rachel and I even got to work.

Wendy and Penny filled in part of their brackets with actual movie quotes. So great!

Keep the brackets coming!
