Man drowns in Glade Park potholes
A man drowned this afternoon while swimming in the potholes area of Glade Park, according the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputy Patrick Arotin, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department, said the man appeared to be in his early- to mid-20s and died after jumping in the water to try to save another swimmer.
“He apparently got pulled under, pulled downstream with some heavy currents. His friends got him, and he was not conscious and not breathing,” Arotin said.
He said the deceased man’s friends gave him CPR for about 30 minutes before emergency responders from the Glade Park and Grand Junction fire departments arrived.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Arotin said.
