Why was the GJHS Class of 2005 denied the right to have as its class song “The Wall, Part 2” by Pink Floyd, but was forced to accept “The World’s Greatest” by R. Kelly? Why did the then-existing administrators prefer a performer who promotes, supports, and participates in child pornography?

I am not against free speech, but both Ruthy and Logans comments should be removed simply because they have nothing to do with the story. OR put differently, they are offensive and vulgar.

I liked GJHS’s 2007 grad class song - “Life Is a Highway”. It wasn’t cheesy or ‘an old standby’ or inappropriate or too slow or too fast…etc. In fact, it was wicked cool to see the parents singing the song along with the grads and other GJHS students there. Seems it was a good choice for everyone…and worth putting on the Sentinel’s list!

I graduated from Central High School with the class of 1999 and Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” was our graduation song.
I wouldn’t put it on the “Worst List”, but it was definitely over-played at the time. But out of our list of 3 options that we were given, it was by far the best choice (Prince’s “Party like it’s 1999” was one of the other options). It did, however, sound pretty terrible being sung by three female choir students at the ceremony.

We chose “Please Don’t Go” by the Cars but the school refused to let us have it. Sure seems childish even now.

I graduated from GJHS in 2005 and I completely agree with Maia’s comment. Our class voted to have The Wall as our class song, but apparently that wasn’t as appropriate as R. Kelly’s song. I was absolutely furious when I found out that instead of having a class song by an amazing and talented band, our class song was by a no-talent so-called “recording artist” who likes to urinate on girls and make child porn.
I understand that “The World’s Greatest” was Alex Bennett’s song and that’s why it was our class song, but it wasn’t voted in by our class. It was chosen for us by administrators and student council. We didn’t get the song or the class flower we wanted.
Good Job, Junction High. Very nice example of the democracy in this country.

hmmmmm….I just graduated on the 29th…we didn’t have a class song. We did a medley of songs and performed it. It was fun, we even had a Tahitian number and a Samoan Sasa (I’m from Hawaii and the public schools like to have fun at graduation.) My favorite had to be Memory Lane sorry. i forgot who sings it, but all I know is that it’s a bit reggae-ish. but the part we sang went like: Back to the good old days Take a trip down memory lane Through the good times and the pain One thing remains the same Everyone’s love will never change

The omission of “Freebird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd is a great tragedy. And to all of the Green Day fans out there, “Good Riddance” is the most obvious and cliche song that could ever be chosen as a graduation song. peace.
