Giving thanks to the warm weather
One of the main reasons I moved from Gunnison down here to Grand Junction was the very cold, harsh, bitter, ridiculous, inhumane winters. So I was not very happy to experience this last winter in Grand Junction, which I swear was the longest winter of my life since living in the mountains. My birthday in March is usually the dividing line between cold and warm-er … not so this year. Not so in April. And just barely so in May.
I was very cranky.
So for all those who put up with me and became convinced I was a negative ninny without an ounce of happiness or gratefulness left in me, I would like to prove that I am not, in fact, an ice queen. I will remain positive in fact, ALL SUMMER. I promise. I cannot, however, reassure you that I will not revert to a monster come 1st snow.
Let’s begin-things I am SO grateful for, now that it’s warmer:
1.) My shamrock plant is thriving, despite being decimated three times by my cats who think it’s funny. This last time was scary — not one leaf left. As you can see — flowers!

2.) My guy fixed the flat on my bike and even bought me the super-coolest-ever basket so we can now ride downtown to get drunk dinner in style.

3.) There is NO snow coming out of these clouds. Nor sleet, nor freezing rain, nor grapple (yes, that is a real weather term). I love the summer sunsets in our desert oasis —some of the most beautiful I’ve seen anywhere. Yep — pure gratitude.

4.) Real food growing on plants in my mini-garden (this was what started the whole BIG garden idea — more on that later). Can’t do that in the winter, can you, all you “i love winter … la la la” freakos.

See? I CAN be positive and grateful. Just give me summer all the time — or at least NOT a seven month winter — and the smiles will keep coming. Promise.

Ha ha, I love the “I love winter…lalala” freakos description. I love all seasons for all different reasons—but I must admit it’s awesome to finally be able to sit on the balcony after dinner without shivering!

Cari, I lived in Leadville for 8 years, so I understand what you are saying. I don’t get the people who think snow is so pretty… whatever. Give me the sun! It is a myth that “you can always put more clothes on” if it is cold. Not when you have the mind numbing cold and snow of winter in the high country.

I am so enjoying this temperate spring we are having. Needing a sweater for my bike ride to work is awesome. Plus our newly rolled sod is looking very happy. Go spring!
