‘I’m the next f***ing state representative’

With those words, House District 56 candidate Muhammad Ali Hasan announced his goal, as printed in the latest issue of Westword.
Perhaps it’s not the most eloquent way to say you’re running for office, but it is a taste of the fervor Hasan probably will bring to what normally would be a fairly straightforward race in the Interstate 70 corridor. (Recall: Hasan previously challenged Rep. Al White, R-Hayden, in his bid to succeed term-limited Sen. Jack Taylor, R-Steamboat Springs.)
The Westword article, which is definitely a worth a read, details Hasan’s journey from his abortive Senate bid to his designation as the GOP candidate for former Democratic Silverthorne Rep. Dan Gibb’s seat. (Gibbs was appointed to succeed outgoing Sen. Joan Fitz-Gerald, D-Golden.)
Curious about what Hasan’s backer thought about the article, I phoned up Assistant House Minority Leader David Balmer, R-Centennial. Asked about the article, he laughed. (Balmer is featured in one of the article’s photos.)
“Our entire House Republican caucus is excited we have Republican candidates running all over the state,” Balmer said.
“Well, they saved the best sentence for last, didn’t they?” Balmer said when asked again about the article.
