More on Bob Schaffer’s Kurdish connection

For those of you looking for more on The Daily Sentinel’s story on Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Schaffer’s ties to a production-sharing contract his former employer, Aspect Energy, pursued and secured with the Kurdistan Regional Government, we’ve taken the liberty of posting some of the background materials here.
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s investigative papers, released earlier this month, can be accessed here. The Oct. 18 letter we cited in the story — detailing the U.S. State Department’s position on companies doing business with regional players in Iraq — can be found here.
A legal opinion relied upon by Aspect Energy to bolster its case for dealing with the Kurdistan Regional Government and not Iraq’s federal government — forwarded to me by the firm’s chief investment officer, R. Todd Neugebauer — can be found here.
Here are links to the relevant pages from the Government Accountability Office report and the State Department report the GAO used as a source.
In case you’re interested in seeing a nearly complete listing of all of the foreign energy firms working in Iraqi Kurdistan, check out pages three and four of the Jan. 7 edition of the Middle East Economic Survey.
And here is most of Political Notebook’s interview with Schaffer where he describes his role in helping Aspect Energy secure its oil contract with the Kurdistan Regional Government:

Finally, we’ll leave the question of how this will affect the Schaffer campaign to you:
