Ciruli poll: Obama, McCain tied; Udall leading his GOP rival
New polling out today shows Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama statistically tied with his GOP peer and Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Mark Udall polling ahead of his opponent across Colorado.
According to the survey results released by Denver-based pollster Floyd Ciruli, Obama leads Republican John McCain 44 percent to 43 percent.
Ciruli’s poll shows Udall leads Republican Bob Schaffer 45 percent to 38 percent.
Ciruli’s polling firm surveyed 501 Colorado voters between Sept. 19 and Sept. 23 and has a margin or error of 4.4 percentage points.

Buescher explains why he is looking ahead to 2009 session

When state Rep. Bernie Buescher, D-Grand Junction, announced today that he already has started drafting his first bill for the 2009 legislative session, what he did not mention was that he has to be re-elected first.
Naturally curious, Political Notebook approached the incumbent lawmaker after he rolled out his plan to require arrestees to provide DNA samples and asked him if he was being a bit “heady” to plan ahead when he has not been re-elected yet.
Here’s what he had to say:
The “Mitch” Buescher mentioned twice in the video is Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey, in case you were wondering. The “Pete” he mentioned is Mesa County District Attorney Pete Hautzinger.

Statewide business group gets behind Buescher’s re-election bid
“You have proven your willingness and ability to fight for small business in Colorado. Your efforts show that you understand the importance of small business to our state’s economy. You have also shown that you will fight to protect our free enterprise system and we appreciate your support.”
That might sound like a paragraph the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce would release in support Republican House District 55 candidate Laura Bradford. Actually, it’s a line from a recent letter from the National Federation of Independent Business of Colorado released endorsing state Rep. Bernie Buescher, D-Grand Junction.
Though this is unlikely to blot out the local chamber of commerce’s endorsement of Bradford or overshadow the state chamber of commerce’s endorsement of Buescher, it comes at a time when Buescher’s appearance of support from the business community might seem a bit dented.
Here is the endorsement letter:
