Schaffer and Amendment 52

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Schaffer opposes Amendment 52?
Well, that’s not the case, according to the former congressman’s campaign.
According to PolitickerCO, both Schaffer and his opponent, Democrat Mark Udall, said during a Monday debate they oppose Amendment 52: “Both candidates came out against Amendment 52, a plan by some Republican state lawmakers that would tap into the state severance tax to pay for improvements to Interstate 70. Schaffer voiced opposition after asking what Amendment 52 would do.”
Having seen this, we contacted one of the ballot question’s backers, state Sen. Josh Penry, R-Grand Junction. He declined to comment except to say, “You might call the Schaffer campaign for clarification.”
As the state lawmaker intimated, Schaffer’s campaign manager, Dick Wadhams, said Schaffer was confused at the time about which ballot question he was being asked about.
“It was unclear to Bob what amendment was being asked about,” Wadhams said in an e-mail. “Bob does support 52.”
