Salazar hopes Markey will join him in the growing Blue Dog Coalition
Congressman John Salazar, D-Colo., said he hopes Betsy Markey, the 4th Congressional District’s incoming representative, will join him and other moderate and conservative Democrats in the Blue Dog Coalition.

“She’s a very moderate to conservative Democrat. I think she is one of those members that have the same kind of values as many of us Blue Dogs have,” Salazar told Political Notebook. “And I think we’re going to be increasing our numbers in the Blue Dogs by several members, so I’m going to try and get her on there if she wishes to. She’ll make a great Blue Dog.”
Salazar said Markey and he have a lot in common, including a desire to keep the U.S. Army from expanding Pinon Canyon through eminent domain. He said Coloradans should expect them to be on the same page on many issues.
Markey, who defeated incumbent Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave, R-Colo., by a double-digit margin last week could do well to watch Salazar. After all, it was only four years ago that Salazar turned a red congressional district blue — and has kept it that way.
