Sounds like a good show. Too bad they aren’t familiar with the correct usage of apostrophes.

After a Google search it appears you are not the only person spelling it woah. It also appears to be an acronym for World Ogranization for Animal Health, just in case you ever need to use it in that context. Ya never know.

Sweater Day next month

I thought I should post this before I forget.

March 20, is being promoted as “Sweater Day” in honor of Fred Rogers (you know, Mr. Rogers “… It’s a wonderful day in the neighborhood…”) on what would have been his 80th birthday.

I loved “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.” He made me believe that make believe worlds of puppets might possibly exist.

Read it - straight from The Cabaret

Here’s the exact news release about the temporary closure of The Cabaret Dinner Theatre from The Cabaret.

The Cabaret has reopened but still needs help

The Cabaret Dinner Theatre in Grand Junction reopened this morning, after having its assets seized by the State of Colorado on Thursday, February 22, 2008 for failure to pay taxes.

The theatre found itself in a major financial hole due in part to a tumultuous fiscal 2007 and sluggish ticket sales in January, 2008. Through major corporate restructuring in 2007, the Cabaret reduced its overhead substantially. However the company was temporarily unable to make its required regular tax payments.

Through support from the community, and a new investment program, Executive Producer and Managing Member Kirk McConnell was able to secure enough funding to pay off the back tax debt to the state and reopen on Monday, February 25, 2008 at noon.

But the theatre is still in need of help. The Cabaret lost over $25,000 during the forced closure because of the cancellation of five shows and the temporary shut-down of the Spotlight Lounge. This, coupled with the past debt load leaves the business with a major financial burden.

Anyone who wishes to assist the Cabaret in overcoming its current financial problems may do so in any one of several ways:

Non-tax-deductible donations may be made to the Cabaret Community Support Fund at Grand Valley National Bank in Grand Junction.

The Cabaret also has a new program, which allows interested parties to invest in individual productions. These investments yield attractive returns for short-term investments.

Businesses can help by purchasing advertising and corporate sponsorships, and by booking private houses.

Finally, patrons and supporters may still help by continuing to buy tickets, bringing their friends, and purchasing season tickets.

The outpouring of support from the community at large has been remarkable. With that continued support, the Cabaret will continue to delight audiences for years to come.

CABARET CLOSES

The Cabaret Dinner Theatre, 701 Main St. and The Spotlight Lounge were shut down Thursday afternoon for nonpayment of taxes.

Tonight’s show at The Spotlight and Saturday night’s show with Flat Top Reed and Craig Kingfish Griffin were canceled. Flat Top Reed will play at the Hot Tomato in Fruita on Saturday instead.

Bet you were shocked last night if you didn’t know this …

I hope everyone remembered that Geeks Who Drink and Open Mic Night at the Rockslide swapped places.

Tuesdays are now the new home for geeky pub quizzes.

Thursdays are rocking the Open Mic Night with more jam bands and singer songwriters than you could possibly imagine.

The reason for the switch, I’m told, is that the Farmers Market in spring and summer could have interfered with the timing of the pub quiz. Random trivia has once again been saved by rescheduling.

Actor Heath Ledger is dead

heathweb.jpg

Major news sources are reporting Heath’s body was discovered by a housekeeper. There may have been pills in the room.

Heath was only 28. By that age he’d done some pretty impressive work.

Growing up “10 Things I Hate About You” was one of my most favorite movies.

How to spell whoa

I was informed on Friday by Todd “smart aleck” Powell, the Web editor, that I have been spelling whoa wrong my entire life.

This is staggering information.

I have always spelled whoa like this —> woah. The placement of my ‘h’ is all wrong.

Here is the definition and spelling of whoa according to the Urban Dictionary.

However, Urban Dictionary also has an entry for “like woah” first introduced in the MYA song “My love is like … wo” (possibly).

Like woah should be used for emphasis. For example, “Her hair is like woah. His mustache is not.”

Usually when I use the word whoa I put the word like in front of it anyways. Therefore I will continue to spell it like woah while spelling it whoa when like does not appear in front of it.

My apologies if this has confused you more.

I’m tired like woah.

Celebrity sighting in GJ! Like woah.

If this were a real story, perhaps the headline would look like this:

“Boy band singer turned international pop star stops in Grand Junction to eat chicken and walk a dog.”

Interested?

A couple of people have told me that they know someone, who knows someone who saw Justin Timberlake at the Chick-fil-A on 6&50 a week or so ago.

At least he picked a classy fast food restaurant.

Anyone out there have a photo of said celebrity and possibly his somewhat equally as famous girlfriend and their little dog? If you do, you know how to get a hold of me. I would be more than happy to post the pictures here (real or fake - let’s see what you can come up with).

Also, since my column in last Friday’s Out & About ran, nobody has taken me up on the iPod dance. Seriously. Someone out there must be interested.

I need some takers.

Going out and about

Just as a reminder - today is audition day for upcoming performances at The Cabaret. More details are listed two blog entries below.

You never can be too sure about the local bar scene. Just last week Crime Stoppers was looking for information about a Dec. 23 assault and attempted robbery that happened behind Corral Bar on Colorado Avenue.

So, I have a bar suggestion. Saturday night I went to Cruisers on North Avenue for the first time and it was a good place to hang out. It wasn’t too packed, the crowd wasn’t too sketchy, the bartender was friendly, they have shuffle board and the music’s not too loud. I will be going back.

Anyone else have a local bar suggestion that a twenty-something female will feel safe going to?

Call for entries

There is no excuse for not telling all you Post O&A readers that I was going on vacation and would not be updating the blog.

Lucky for you, I’m back AND you didn’t even know I was gone. That’s how sneaky I am.

So here’s an arts update:

Special this year, the Colorado Mountain Winefest has teamed up with The Blue Pig Gallery in Palisade to have their very own art contest.

The winning artwork will be the image Winefest uses for all 2008 promotional materials, including posters, T shirts and more.

Submissions are due Feb. 4 - 8. Better hurry up!

Find out more info at this link. Download the entry form and rules while you’re there.

From Feb. 15 - 24, the gallery will host an exhibition of selected works from the contest.

Winefest this year is Sept. 18-21.
