A great view
By Robin Dearing
I wrote last week about all the things that went wrong on our Labor Day weekend.
As of yesterday, my tire was fixed and the hole in our front yard is finally filled and the sprinkler system is working once again (oh the joys of home ownership).
We still have the broken toilet in our backyard.
Because we're classy like that (I'm hoping it goes to the dump soon and doesn't end up in our spring clean-up pile next year!).
And while the weekend was full of things gone wrong, we did actually have a lot of fun.
On Monday, while Bill was at class, Margaret, my mom and I went in search of something to do.
We ended up in the parking lot of the Museum of the West — it was open and virtually empty.
We spent a good amount of time going through the exhibits and really enjoying ourselves.
The museum has a little bit of everything, something for everyone.
My mom and I got a good chuckle at Margaret's expense at the aviation display. Inside the museum is most of a small airplane. The exhibit invites you to sit in the cockpit and take a test flight.
With a little encouragement, Margaret climbed into the pilot's seat and began pressing the buttons as instructed by the recording.
At the point when the engine recording started playing, she said, "That's good" and jumped out of the cockpit.
We laughed and showed her that the plane was plugged into the wall and wouldn't be taking off any time soon, but she'd had her "flight" experience and was ready to move on.
After viewing all the exhibits, we climbed the stairs (Margaret insisted that we not take the elevator, as that was cheating) to the top of the Sterling tower.
Man, what a great view.
We loved the photos and matching them up with the view.
All in all, it was a great way to spend an afternoon.
