Camping on Glade Park

By Robin Dearing

Over the weekend, we camped up on Glade Park near Fruita Reservoir No. 1.

Have you guys been up there lately? The reservoirs are so low.

But it's still gorgeous. And it rained while we were camping which I love. No, really, I love when it rains. It's like mandatory nap time in the tent. I was happy to oblige.

I had a much needed relaxing, fun, easy time thanks to my awesome family and friends.

We got to see the blue moon which was a big as a pizza pie.

We got to drive around on our friend's ATVs.

We got to have a fire pretty much all the time except for when we were sleeping.

The clouds were so beautiful. They looked like they were painted.

Glade Park is so close to us and easy for a quick trip to get away from it all.

We camped recently on the other side at Enoch Lake. We wished we had gone the other way into Fruita Reservoirs because Enoch apparently is where people go to party and scream all night long. It is beautiful up there and another reason to LOVE our area — less than an hour drive and you feel like you’re a million miles away!

When I was growing up, we’d drive four hours to our favorite camping spot. Being able to make a quick drive up to camp in places like Glade Park, the Uncompahgre and Grand Mesa is really wonderful.  Unfortunately, there are always going to be those loud, party campers when you camp outside of formal camp grounds. Not sure why they think that is necessary. Rabble scrabble jerk campers.
