Emmy fashion confusion

I don't really enjoy awards shows. As a matter of a fact, I think listening to so and so big shot thank his mom and his wife and his dog and his producer and his manicurist and his limo driver while he throws in some political jab or inside jokes only ACTOOOORS get bores the heck out of me. But, I do like to log on and look at the pretty dresses the next day. This year I looked at the "good" list and the "bad" list, and unless it was just obviously terrible, I really couldn't tell the difference. Can someone tell me how this: Is better than this: ??????? Obviously I don't know squat about fashion. I'll admit, one look at me can tell you that. I usually go for the easy, black pants plus colored shirt equals good enough. I don't bother with accessories because I've never really been able to figure them out. I feel silly wearing anything other than a headband. But these women have people who KNOW fashion dressing and looking them. I'd think you'd be able to tell what was good or bad. But really--takes these for instance: In the infamous words of Butthead: Uhhhhhh-uh. And is this dress not just as ugly as this dress: Oh and Ugly, Ugly, Ugly: If you can tell which of these dresses made the bad list and which made the good list, your way more fashionable than I am. If you can't tell the difference, GO HERE. If anyone has any explanations for all this please enlighten me.
