Fall where they may

By Richie Ann Ashcraft

Since becoming a mom, I really find myself annoying.

There are days when all I do is walk around the house saying "Jonas, stop that, don't hit your brother, Soren I'm gonna spank your bottom if you don't pick up those grapes, Marek, stop crying for the love of God, ew, this diaper stinks, Jonas, stop hitting your brother, Soren, stop saying the word crap, Yeeeeesss Marek I'm going to feed you, who peed on the floor? has anybody seen a pencil? Jonas get out of the refridgerator, Soren stop hitting your brother, Aaaaahhh!"

Seriously, I sometimes have these out-of-body experiences where I can hear myself speak and it disgusts me. Who am I and how did I get this way? I don't even know how anybody or why anybody would listen to me. It's just a bunch of blah blah blah and nobody changes their behavior to suit me, so why try?

Yesterday was one of those days. I just gave up and shut up.

So, when Soren was napping under my bed, I took his picure. When Marek barfed in my hair, I zipped my mouth and took a shower. When nobody would eat the food I made for dinner ... oh well... I let them eat grapes.

I'm sure there were a thousands things that my boys were doing that needed corrected. I'm sure there were opportunities for teaching or lessons to be learned that fell to the wayside. I know that sleeping under the bed could become a bad habit. And, I really don't care. I needed a break from my own self.
