Jonas turns 5

By Richie Ann Ashcraft

Today is Jonas' 5th birthday.

Not to get all sappy on ya, but he is just as sweet at 5 as he's ever been.

I remember when he was a baby, he'd coo at me as I carried him. Now, he runs up and holds my hand nearly everywhere we go.

This weekend, we celebrated his birthday at Highline Lake. It was, btw, quite an enjoyable place to have a birthday party.

He had some very specific things in mind as to how his birthday would go down.  He wanted to camp at the lake. He wanted a cowboy outfit of his own, having been jealous of Marek's duds, an Alumawallet, a camera, and a watch. Our middle boy is spoiled and he received every single thing he asked for.

Including this turtle cake.

As I was decorating it, Jonas said "Aw, it's Fred. Let's write Fred on it."

Um, no.

There is no way we are going to eat an effigy of our dead pet to celebrate Jonas' birthday. I mean, we loved that damn turtle, but that is just plain weird.

Regardless, everyone kept calling the cake Fred and laughing. How do my birthdays always go wrong? Cake Fred tasted pretty good.

Yesterday, the celebration continued at a GJ Rockies game. Jonas' name was added to the birthday wishes over the PA system, and Corky signed a card with a Happy Birthday Jonas! He clicked his picture with his new camera and loved busting out his new wallet at the concession stand.

Five is a monumental birthday and his selection of gifts were a direct reflection of his effort to show his maturity. Grown-ups have cameras, and watches, and wallets. I think that's awesome as long he's still willing to hold my hand every once in a while.

I love the outfit!  Sounds like a great birthday for Jonas :)

Not possible ... your kids are little, babies practically. How did Jonas get to be 5? Happy birthday to him even if he is growing up too fast.
