Parenting Resolutions?
By Richie Ann Ashcraft
Looking ahead 2009 is certain to be a big year for me as a mom.
Of course, there's the pending addition of new baby this summer.
Then, there's the decision to be made about which preschool to enroll Soren in this fall. Followed by the crying sobbing mother as she drives away.
And Jonas will advance to a big boy bed, potty training and poop jokes.
Just that small list is monumental and exhausting.
The last few days I've been trying to think of some kind of parenting resolution that might make this coming year a little bit easier on me.
I've come up with:
--Relax and remind myself often that my kids are fine.
--Try to make confident and informed decisions but be ready to change course if something isn't working. Don't blame myself for something not working.
--Spend more time individually with the kids and the hubby.
--Find some "me" time and don't feel guilty about it.
--Sleep at every possible opportunity.
--Remind myself that the kids will only be small for a little while longer. Hug them all tight.
--Feed the family less macaroni and cheese and more quinoa.
What are your parenting resolutions? Any suggestions to keep 2009 a little more sane?
