Soreness blooms of spring
Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all!
Are you wearin' o' the green?
Are you drinkin' green beer?
Me neither. Just so you know, you proly shouldn't be pinching me.
I'm not a fan of being pinched.
You know what else I don't like?
The second ride of bicycle riding season.
Monday, the weather was so glorious Margaret and I got out our bikes for the first ride of the year.
Of course, the first ride of the season means tires have to be pumped and brakes inspected. Also Margaret's knees were about to poke her in the eyes so I needed to adjust her seat. But her seat takes a fancy wrench. It was too nice outside to spend time looking for wrenches, so we just rode our bikes down to Brown's Cycles knowing they'd have the tools required for the job.
And they did. Chris Brown raised her seat and then informed me the adorable, pink mountain bike Margaret got for her birthday two years ago was on the verge of being way too small for her. As of now, it's just too small. But it matches her bicycle helmet so she's not complaining.
After riding downtown, we rode around the neighborhood where we were joined by some neighborhood girls and by Bill. We rode around and around going no where in particular, just enjoying being out in the beatiful weather.
Tuesday was another lovely day. Mar and I decided to ride again downtown, but this time to meet Bill for dinner at Pablo's (mmm Pablo's).
As soon as we got on our bikes to ride, Mar cried out, "Ow! It hurts from riding my bike yesterday!"
I knew exactly how she felt. I hurt, too. I would have happily turned around and enjoyed the weather sitting comfortably in our yard, but Bill was on his way to meet us. We pressed on. It seems like 50 miles instead of just a couple. We whinned, but we made it and the ride home was a little better than the ride there.
Darn that second bike ride of the year.
Hopefully we're over the soreness and now we've got the rest of bicycle season to just enjoy the ride.
