Stuff Happens
By Lynn Lickers
When it rains, it pours.
Murphy's Law.
Bad things happen in threes.
Or something like that. It's been home repair hell at my house the last week.
First the dishwasher started making this really horrific grinding sound. It freaked me out because I thought it was going to blow up or start on fire. So I turned the swamp cooler on high and now it's nice and cool in the house and I can't hear the dishwasher anymore. Problem solved.
Then I had to mow the lawn because Alex has been working 11-hour shifts at his job. I spilled gas all over everything, including myself when I filled the mower tank. Then I ran over a sprinkler head and mowed it into a thousand pieces. Now when the sprinklers are on that one shoots up like Old Faithful. So I pointed it towards a spot on the lawn that was turning brown because the sprinkler head for that section quit working in May. Problem solved.
The cord on my vacuum cleaner has been frayed for quite a long time. I plugged it in yesterday and sparks and smoke flew out of the outlet and left a big charred streak on the wall. I couldn't vacuum so I left the house early for a mojito party at my sister's. Problem solved.
I don't know why you men gripe about fixing stuff. It seems pretty easy to me.
