Thankful for summertime
By Robin Dearing
Sleeping heads is what I see weekday mornings now that both Bill and Margaret are out of school.
I've been asked if it's hard to be the only one who has to get up early during the summer and I easily answer, "No." And I'm almost being honest.
Sure, I'd love to be able to sleep in everyday and leisurely get to my daily chores or not get to my daily chores, but this mama's gotta work.
Instead I take stock in the fact that our lives are slower in the summer. I don't have to worry about homework or piano lessons, clean school clothes or after-school care.
Since Bill is off for the summer, he does the majority of the house and yard work and he's gotta get up when the kid starts puking at 2 a.m. (which happened last night).
We spend more time with our friends and neighbors, barbecuing and letting our kids run all over the neighborhood.
Plus I get to see Bill and Margaret for lunch ... and dinner every day.
So, no, it's not hard to be the only one getting up early everyday, because there are definitely benefits.
