The last present to be opened in July
By Richie Ann Ashcraft
We seriously had perfectly perfect holidays. I couldn't have asked for better. There were cookies, family, good food, a gingerbread house, holiday movies, and presents.
On Christmas eve, my brother-in-law hid around the side of the house and we took Soren outside to search in the sky for Santa's sleigh. How surprised he was when he heard "Ho Ho Ho!" Then he screamed out to the sky "I LOVE YOU SANTA I WANT A HANDY MANNY TOOLBOX!" Jonas says "ho ho" every time he sees a Santa. I am so pro-santa. I love the person who invented that legend.
Soren indeed got his Handy Manny toolbox on Christmas morning and Jonas got a giant steel Tonka dumptruck. Daddy got some COAL and Vegimite in his stocking and mommy got new pajamas and perfume. We were all very happy with what we received.
But, there was one thing missing from under the tree that Soren repeatedly asked for. He desperately wanted a baby sister for Christmas. So much so that he tried to impregnate me by putting pieces of lint into my belly button.
He was insistent that Santa was going to bring him a baby sister and maybe he did. Just a few days before Christmas we heard that familiar "whoosh whoosh" of the neonatal heartbeat of what is Soren's Christmas wish come true.
I know it was daddy and I's. We had said that if we weren't successful by Christmas we would give up.
We explained to Soren that he would have to wait until July to get this Christmas present but that didn't stop him from giving my belly a big old hug and kiss. He swears it's a girl and I hope he's right.
It is certainly one present that all of us can't wait to hold.
