White Hall, R.I.P.

By Robin Dearing

I drive by White Hall three times a week. Each time, I crane my neck to see what remains after a devastating fire gutted the building almost a year ago. My name is Robin and I'm an architectural rubbernecker.

I loved White Hall with its squished dome and classical facade. Now, it sits an empty shell waiting to be demolished.

I promised myself that I would take pictures of the ruined White Hall to record its sad fate. Last week, I finally remember to put my camera in my car. Here's what I saw:

Nice job Robin. I remember the pictures our photographers took while it was burning. Sadly, I don’t think it ever looked more beautiful. I think the loss of White Hall is a disappointment for our whole community. It seems like we should have a funeral of some sorts.

I agree, Richie. The photos of the fire (can’t remember if Gret or Dean took the pictures) were so beautiful. Now the building is so pathetic, all gutted and charred. I hate to see grand architecture go this way.
