Grape expectations

By Penny Stine

I've got a concord-style grape growing on my back fence. It's about four years old and really starting to produce a lot. I planted two vines, but one didn't survive a particularly cold and dry winter a few years ago. (I know, they're all cold and dry!)

I picked a colander full one night last week, realized I couldn't possibly eat them all and decided to freeze the ones I didn't eat the next morning.

There were more grapes still on the vine, so I picked another two colanders full and froze them, too. Frozen grapes are a fine addition to a breakfast smoothie.

Last year, I let my husband experiment with making wine out of them. It was not pretty. He's not getting the chance this year.
