Look what’s growing on my deck

By Penny Stine

I hate winter.

The only thing that grows is the amount of snow on my north-facing deck. Even though the temps have been in the 40s during the day, my deck stays cool and shady all day long during the winter because the sun is so low in the horizon. So the snow remains where it fell, reminding me that it's November and we'll have four more months before I can start thinking about sprouts and flowers and green growing things outside.

How sad.
