Daikaiju’s Loud Sonic Boom

By David Goe

"Who is the Daikaiju??? Premium action heroes deliver most high rocket music! Special reverb skill combo for full impact! Loud sonic boom for earful pleasure! Beautiful radiation of hyper-dimensional springy sound creates divine psychic wind for your special protection. Worship Psycho-surf band Daikaiju daily for good luck and health!"

That's a direct quote from Daikaiju's (die-kie-joo) Facebook page. This theatrical New Orleans quartet, who play "all reverb guitar action full on," are headed our way. Daikaiju are scheduled to appear live at Sabrosa this Wednesday.

From their own description the band sounds like fighting characters from mid 1990s video games like Street Fighter or Tekken. With names like Secret-Man, Rock-Man, Hands-Man, and Rumble-Man, Daikaiju should be an entertaining show, if nothing else. Their tone is vintage surf rock. It's twangy reverb with metal-esque drums (presumably played by Hands-Man). Someone on YouTube described the band as "surf Rush." Sounds good to me.

Check out their music and possibly even their show.
