Guerilla Percussionists: “Sound of Noise”

By David Goe

The other day my friend and bandmate was talking about this crazy Swedish movie "Sound of Noise." The movie is about music hating and tone-deaf cop named Amadeus, and his pursuit of a group of guerilla percussionists "terrorizing" the city with their public performances. For the percussionists everything is an instrument. Coins, bulldozers, jack hammers, a car engine, stamps, an operating room, blenders, cabinet doors, a tooth brush, etc...

I can't speak for the quality of the entire movie but we checked out several performances and they are extremely creative. The music pieces are certainly avant-garde but all fans of music will appreciate the fact that literally anything can be turned into an instrument. Here is a peek at the group performing a piece in a kitchen. Enjoy.
