Countdown
By Lynn Lickers
A mere 48 hours from now Hot Legs Norman and I will be lining up at the start of the Moab Winter Sun 10K. Along with 698 other lucky runners. Each runner will have their own story to tell about why and how they are where they are and what brought them to the starting line. Each runner always does.
I don’t know all of Hot Legs’ story but I do know that she has been extremely dedicated about training for this race. I have watched her grow from chugging out a couple of miles, to tricking her into running four miles, to having to seriously pick up my own training schedule just to keep up with her. Her dedication has inspired me to run the most I’ve consistently run since last year’s Rim Rock Run. She will run an awesome race and I will be cheering the loudest for her - probably from behind her!
In the meantime - the training continues. Dan and I were in the Phoenix area last week to visit his parents. We found a great recreation area and decided to give it a try for running.
It also had a 25 mile competitive racing mountain bike loop. Hence the need for speed.
It was a really cool place with very different flora and fauna than we see around here.
I would not want to fall off my bike or stumble on a rock in the trail however.
Luckily it was off-season for rattle snakes.
So Hot Legs - here's to you! Save me some peanut butter sandwiches at the finish line!
