The age old question…is junk food cheaper?

By Julie Norman

I ran across this article today by Mark Bittman as I was reading a much more recent piece.  Considering our goal here at Penny Pinchers is to save money, Bittman's article about fresh healthy foods being cheaper than processed junk definitely hits home.  Check it out here: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/25/opinion/sunday/is-junk-food-really-cheaper.html?pagewanted=all

I agree with the NY Times bit totally. I have always been frugal (some would call me cheap) and eating out always costs more than making it at home. Plus, here in GJ, where you can wait 30 - 45 minutes to get seated on a busy night at almost any restaurant, it’s sometimes more convenient and fast to cook at home - if you’ve got a staple of easy, go-to ideas that don’t require a lot of fuss.
