A look at logos

By Debra Dobbins

A company’s logo is its distinctive graphic image that proclaims its identity to the world.

“An image … is not simply a trademark, a design, a slogan or an easily remembered picture,” Daniel Boorstin, librarian of the U.S. Congress from 1975 to 1987, once noted. “It is a studiously crafted personality profile of an individual, institution, corporation, product or service.” (Source: http://www.logoinn.net/inspirational-quotes/)

Millions of dollars annually go toward creating effective logos and also guarding against their misuse.

Nike’s “swoosh” may be the most recognized logo in the world, but there are other famous logos, as well. For a fun look at logos of major firms and how they’ve evolved over time, head to http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/logo-evolution.
