It’s feast among the beasts at High Wire Ranch

By Dave Buchanan

If you've never dined among the beasts, here's your chance.

I'm not talking about lunch at the local animal shelter but Yvon and Joanna Gros's third annual Wine & Buffalo Feast dinner at the always interesting High Wire Ranch. The ranch, owned by Dave and Sue Whittlesey, raises grass-fed buffalo and elk, and what you'll be eating might have been on the hoof a short time earlier. The address is 257512 North Road on the Redlands Mesa near Hotchkiss.

The feast is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and features wines from Yvon and Joanna's Leroux Creek Vineyards. Yvon said this year will have three Executive Chefs sharing in the meal preparation along with 14 students from the Culinary School of the Rockies. Tickets are $45 each and advance registration is required. Call 970-835-7600.

Meals are served at the Barn — rustic, friendly and plenty of four-legged company.
