It’s elementary: Cheese, chocolate and wine for a good time

By Dave Buchanan
If you’re still free Saturday night and are looking for a good time for a good cause, the Colorado Wine Room in Fruita is hosting a cheese, chocolate and wine tasting to benefit Tope Elementary. The evening features artisanal cheeses and crackers from Diana Tarasiewicz of DMT Catering, hand-crafted chocolates from Enstrom Candies and specially selected wines from Plum Creek Cellars, Stoney Mesa Winery and Talon Winery. Talon, by the way, is the label of Colorado Wine Room proprietors Glenn and Natalie Foster. If you Google "Talon Winery," you get a similarly-named winery in Lexington, Ky. The Colorado Talon Winery is at the Colorado Wine Room, 455 Kokopelli Blvd, Ste. A, on the south side of Interstate 70 near the visitor center. Winemakers, including Plum Creek’s Jenne Baldwin, Stoney Mesa’s Bret Neal and Talon’s Glenn Foster, will be on hand to talk about their wines and explain why certain wines were paired with the cheese and chocolate. The event will be 7-9 p.m. and tickets are $35 with all the proceeds going to Tope. Preregistration is required. The event is co-sponosered by BioGreen and A Greener Cleaner. Information: Colorado Wine Room, 858-6330.
