Coroner: Monument death appears to be accidental

The man who died after his car went off a cliff near the Coke Ovens on the Colorado National Monument on Tuesday appears to have died in a fatal accident, according to officials. Mesa County Coroner Dean Havlik said in an email Wednesday afternoon that he is not releasing the man’s name, pending notification of kin, but said it appears the man’s death was accidental at this time. GJ man drowns in Grand Mesa lake

A Grand Junction man drowned Tuesday evening while paddle boarding on Eggleston Lake on the Grand Mesa, according to the Delta County Sheriff’s Office. The 44-year-old man, whose name has not been released pending notification of next kin, apparently fell off the paddle board, Sheriff Fred McKee said. He wasn’t wearing a life jacket. Man dies in Colorado rafting accident

DENVER — A man on a private rafting trip in central Colorado has died after falling into the Arkansas River. The Chaffee County sheriff’s office says the man fell into the water Tuesday afternoon in the Browns Canyon area while traveling over Class III, or intermediate, rapids. GREAT SAND DUNES NATIONAL PARK AND PRESERVE — A body has been found in the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in Colorado. The National Park Service says the body was found Sunday by two other hikers and recovered by authorities on Monday. FORT COLLINS — Investigators say a 66-year-old northern Colorado man whose body was found in a smoke-filled apartment accidentally lit his clothing on fire while cooking.
