2 road workers killed south of Denver

HIGHLANDS RANCH — Authorities say two highway construction workers were killed when they were struck by an SUV that veered off an exit ramp south of Denver.

The Colorado State Patrol says 47-year-old Joseph Schwartz of Morrison and 27-year-old Jesus Villalobos of Brighton were killed in the incident at C-470 and Broadway on Tuesday.

The patrol says two people in the SUV were taken to hospitals with moderate injuries. They were 74-year-old Thomas Garrity of Bellevue, Neb., the driver, and a 72-year-old female passenger whose name wasn’t released.

The patrol says that after the SUV struck the workers, it collided with another SUV on Broadway. The driver of the second SUV wasn’t hurt.
