2 officers back on duty after fatal shooting
Two Grand Junction Police Department officers who fatally shot a man during a confrontation at a North Avenue motel have resumed their normal patrol duties.
One officer went back to work Friday. The second went back to work Monday, according to police spokeswoman Kate Porras.
They have not been identified by authorities. They had been on paid administrative since Feb. 28, when they shot 39-year-old Brent Ingram twice in the chest. Authorities said Ingram brandished a knife at officers when they entered his room at Timbers Motel, 1810 North Ave.
The placement of the officers on paid leave is standard procedure during investigations of officer-involved shootings. The investigation has been turned over to the Mesa County District Attorney’s Office.
Ingram reportedly was intoxicated when officers went inside his room after learning he had outstanding misdemeanor warrants for his arrest. Witnesses described hearing loud commands from the officers to “drop it,” shortly before shots were fired.
