6 cars of a oil crude train derail west of LaSalle

LASALLE — Crews from Union Pacific Railroad are working to clear a six-car train derailment west of LaSalle that has leaked some crude oil into a ditch.

One car is leaking, but crews have contained it to a ditch away from any waterways on Friday. A vacuum truck has been brought in to suck up the oil.

The amount of oil spilled has not been determined.

According to the Greeley Tribune, the 100-car train was loaded in Windsor with Niobrara crude and bound for New York.

Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis says no cause of the accident has been determined.
