Accident closes eastbound I-70 in De Beque Canyon

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 in De Beque Canyon are closed this evening following a rollover accident.

Police radio reports indicate that a vehicle rolled near mile marker 49, the turnoff to head up Colorado Highway 65 onto Grand Mesa. One person was ejected and has a head injury, while a second person is trapped, according to initial reports.

Emergency responders are indicating that both lanes of eastbound I-70 are blocked. Colorado Department of Transportation officials have been asked to change variable message boards to indicate that the eastbound side of the interstate is closed.

St. Mary’s CareFlight helicopter has been dispatched to the scene.
