Acting commerce secretary visiting Colorado

DENVER — Acting U.S. Commerce Secretary Rebecca Blank and the head of the federal Patent Office are visiting Colorado.

Blank and David Kappos, director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, will participate in a panel discussion Thursday on innovation at the University of Colorado medical campus in Aurora.

The Patent Office announced last week it would open branch offices in Denver, Dallas and California’s Silicon Valley.

Also participating will be Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and Don Elliman, chancellor of the CU medical campus and of CU-Denver.

Blank was named acting commerce secretary when John Bryson resigned from the job last month after suffering a seizure and multiple car accidents.
