Advisory warns of approaching winter weather

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for western Colorado. Snow will begin falling around 4 p.m. today and will continue through 7 p.m. Thursday, in areas above 8,000 feet in the West Elk and Sawatch mountain ranges, and the northwest and southwest San Juan Mountains.

The cities of Crested Butte, Taylor Park, Marble, Ouray, Telluride, Lake City, Silverton, Rico and Hesperus will be receive the most snowfall. Up to 10 inches is expected in some areas, according to the Weather Service.

A winter weather advisory means there will be snow or blowing snow that may cause travel difficulties, slippery and wet roads, or limited visibility. Check the road conditions before traveling.
