Anger as arraignment delayed in child’s death
MONTROSE — Family members of Hailey Rocha expressed anger Tuesday after a judge continued to late March the arraignment hearing for Daniel Ryan, who is accused of killing Hailey.
Ryan is charged with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death, stemming from Hailey’s death in September. Details of the Ryan’s arrest remain under seal.
His next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. March 28.
Frustrated family members of Hailey stormed out of the courtroom upon hearing the continuance.
“He killed my baby, and that’s what they do,” said Hailey’s mother, Pamela Barnes.
Police allege Ryan was caring for 14-month-old Hailey on Sept. 11 when she suffered blunt-force trauma. Ryan took the infant to her mother’s workplace, where witnesses described her as pale and unresponsive.
Hailey Rocha was pronounced dead at Montrose Memorial Hospital the same day. Details of how Rocha died also remain under seal.
