Another record-breaking low temperature reached

For the third day in a row, area temperatures reached record-low territory, according to the local weather service.

The -9 degree reading at 2:45 a.m. at Grand Junction Regional Airport was well below the previous daily low temperature record of 7 degrees recorded on Dec. 6, 2011, according to a bulletin from the National Weather Service.

Other areas in the region also set records overnight for exceedingly cold temperatures. Notably, temperatures plunged to -24 degrees in Craig overnight, breaking a previous record of -10 degrees set in 2011 as well. Weather-watchers also said temperatures plunged to -22 degrees about one mile east of Rangely, breaking another record-low temperature.
