Arrest in death in desert
A Grand Junction man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a death this past weekend in the desert near 29 Road.
Aaron Myers, 26, 2842 1/2 Grand Cascade Court, was advised during a first court appearance Wednesday by County Court Judge Gretchen Larson on one count of suspected second-degree murder.
An arrest affidavit remains sealed. Mesa County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Heather Benjamin declined to release Myers’ booking photo, citing the ongoing investigation.
Myers is being held in connection with the death of 50-year-old David Albert Gerry of Grand Junction. The Sheriff’s Department said Gerry attended a party in the desert late Friday, but it has not revealed how he died. The body was discovered Saturday night. The agency Monday asked anyone with information who attended the party to contact investigator Peter Burg at 970-244-3263.
Myers today was ordered held at the Mesa County Jail on $200,000 bond.
Myers had been serving felony probation related to a conviction for attempted robbery, stemming from a 2008 arrest in Grand Junction, according to court records.
