Augustana ends Highlands’ season

Augustana (S.D.) University kept its composure today and handed New Mexico Highlands an 87-73 defeat in the first game of the NCAA Division II Central Region tournament in Mankato, Minn.

The Cowboys lost center Chris Dunn with 4:01 to play in the first half when he was ejected for throwing an elbow to the back of an Augustana player’s head. Chop Tang, who attended high school in Mankato, had his return home spoiled when he was called for a foul in the second half, his fourth, and was assessed a technical for arguing the call. Losing Dunn hurt the Cowboys inside presence, and it also caused them to lose their composure throughout the second half.

Augustana advances to play the winner of the Mesa State-Winona State game, which begins at 1:30 p.m. MST.
