Basalt police chief on leave, reasons not given

ASPEN — Town administrators in Basalt have placed the police chief on paid administrative leave for undisclosed reasons.

Town attorney Tom Smith confirmed to The Aspen Times on Monday that Roderick O’Connor remains the police chief but is on paid leave (http://bit.ly/W8ioaV). Smith says an investigation is under way, but he wouldn’t elaborate, citing town policy on personnel issues.

O’Connor didn’t return telephone messages from the newspaper Tuesday.

The 63-year-old was placed on paid leave in October, but town officials didn’t give an exact date.

O’Connor has been with the Basalt Police Department since 2007.
