Bennet leads field in Senate race fundraising

Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., holds a commanding fundraising lead over all four contenders for the seat to which he was appointed last year, according to the candidates’ releases and reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

Bennet faces the least well-financed of the four candidates, former Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff, in the Democratic primary.

Bennet’s $1.24 million raised in the second quarter of 2010 brought him to $2.6 million in cash on hand, well ahead of Romanoff’s reported $464,340 on hand. During the second quarter, Romanoff reported raising nearly $620,000.

On the Republican side, former lieutenant governor Jane Norton raised $900,000 in the second quarter and has $600,000 in cash on hand for the closing stretch of the primary campaign.

Norton’s opponent, Ken Buck, raised $417,000 in the second quarter and reported finishing the first half of the year with $664,000 in hand.
