Birds count, especially on Christmas

Christmas is a-coming and the geese are getting fat.

How do we know? Why, the Christmas Bird Count, that’s how.

This year’s Grand Junction Christmas Bird Count is schedule for Sunday and there still is time for you to join the festivities.

Pack a lunch, warm boots and gloves and join the Grand Valley Audubon Society in counting your feathered friends.

There will be lots of room for birders of every ability, covering as many types of bird habitat as possible within a 15-mile circle centering on Fruitvale.

Who knows, you might even see a partridge in a Fruitvale pear tree.

WHAT: Grand Junction Christmas Bird Count sponsored by the Grand Valley Audubon Society.

WHEN: Sunday, hours depending on which group you choose.

WHERE: The count circle centers at H and 24 roads and includes parts of Colorado National Monument, the Bookcliffs, Fruitvale, Fruita, all of Grand Junction and the Colorado River.
