Biz: Tan In Paradise expanding

In these dark economic times, Scott Young has a sunnier disposition than many business owners.

The owner of Tan In Paradise, 2478 U.S. Highway 6&50, plans to provide more sun worshippers an early start on their summer tans by opening two new Tan In Paradise stores in the next six weeks. Peak indoor tanning season starts now and runs through May, Young said.

“We are doing very well in the store, and we are overly busy during the peak season,” Young said.

Young opened his first Tan In Paradise store in December 2004, and he said he hopes to have four stores, which employ 60 people, in the Grand Valley by the end of the year.

Young will open a salon across from Mesa State College, 1059 North Ave., on Feb. 15 aimed at the college crowd. Fruita will get a shop at 105 N. Plum St. in March.

Young said he decided it was time to expand because customers at his first store have been experiencing longer waits to access tanning booths. Revenues are up 60 percent and customers are up 50 percent since the store’s first year, he said.

“The new stores are to better satisfy the customers,” Young said.
