Blizzard conditions expected in Denver, NE Colo.

DENVER — Meteorologists say heavy snow and high winds are expected in the Denver area and in northeastern Colorado tonight and early Sunday, likely creating dangerous road conditions and causing delays at Denver International Airport.

The National Weather Service says as much as 6 to 10 inches of snow could fall in the Denver area, accompanied by wind gusts of 25 mph west of I-25 and up to 40 mph east of the interstate. A blizzard watch has been issued for much of the eastern plains.

The Denver Post reports that in the blizzard watch area, the heaviest snow accumulations are expected in southern Douglas and Elbert counties, where 6 to 12 inches may fall.

The Weather Service says travel in the affected areas is not recommended after midnight.
