Body found in canal was missing man

A body recovered Sunday in an irrigation canal near Interstate 70 and Horizon Drive was that of a 51-year-old man reported missing last week by his wife, according to the Mesa County Coroner’s Office.

Kenneth R. Cottingham was found around 6:30 p.m., not too far from where his truck was discovered by searchers.

“Due to the manner of death, no further information will be released,” the coroner’s office said in a release.

Cottingham was reported missing Sept. 25, while Grand Junction police have said he reportedly made suicidal statements before his disappearance.
