Body in Colorado River identified

A body recovered Aug. 20 from the Colorado River near the Persigo Wash has been identified as a 57-year-old local man,  the Mesa County Coroner’s Office said today.

Rodney Crumbaker, of Grand Junction, was identified using fingerprints in an effort involving the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Junction Police Department and Colorado Bureau of Investigation. While cause and manner of death are still under investigation, the death doesn’t appear to be suspicious, the coroner’s office said.

The sheriff’s office continues to investigate.

Authorities have said Crumbaker’s body may have been in the water for two to six months prior to recovery. The case didn’t match any known missing person case in the Grand Valley.
