Body in Lake Powell may be man missing since ‘07

MONTICELLO, Utah — Authorities say a body found floating in the waters of Lake Powell may belong to a Colorado fisherman missing since a rock slide in 2007.

San Juan County deputies say a group of boaters reported the discovery about noon Wednesday in the Lake Canyon area.

Authorities recovered the decomposing body and are taking it to the Utah state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy and identification. Deputies say there’s no evidence of foul play.

Officials suspect the body belongs to Calhan, Colo. resident Donald Simmons, who has been missing for nearly six years.

Deputies say he and Mary Simmons had been fishing Sept. 28, 2007, when a slab of rock fell from an overhang and landed on the couple’s pontoon boat.

Authorities recovered Mary Simmons’ body, but never found Donald’s.
